swearing muslim

Question:

AssalamoAlaikum,

 Please hide the following details.

If someone uses swearing word or bad words while calling someone’s name. And the name of that person is Islamic like Mohammad, Abdullah, Rahman or omaretc like all islamic names.

So if someone use swearing word or bad words in fighting or in anger while calling someone’s name which is islamic name ( name of nabi or Allah Ta’ala or Quranic name or sahabi name or angel name or any islamic name etc). Obviously the intention is not to use that bad word or swearing for that name itself astagfirullah but it is directed to the person but not the name.

Like if one’s son name is Yusuf and parents scold him saying you are bad yusuf or yusuf stop lying or some people even use swearing words as well. But it is not directed at the  name itself but a person.

i know swearing is sinful act and very bad.

But Does act of swearing at other  person who’s name is islamic as mentioned above make one kafir?

JazakAllahKhair

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In general, Shariah prohibits us from bad and evil attribution to each other irrespective of one’s name. Consider the following:

وَلَاتَلْمِزُواأَنفُسَكُمْوَلَاتَنَابَزُوابِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ  (49:11)

Translation: “And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames.”

‏سبابالمسلمفسوق‏‏‏(‏متفقعليه‏)‏‏

Translation: “Reviling a Muslim is Fusuq (disobedience of Allah)”

However, the abhorrence of such attribution is magnified when attributed to people bearing the names of prophets etc. Accordingly, one should exercise more precaution in that instance. However, swearing an individual with an Islamic name will not render one a Kaafir.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
